When will Republic Day be Celebrated in 2025

Every year on January 26, Republic Day is a gazetted holiday in India to commemorate the adoption of the country’s constitution. The Indian Constituency Assembly ratified the constitution on November 26, 1949, and it went into effect under a democratic system on January 26, 1950. One of India’s three national holidays has recently passed. The other public holidays are Independence Day, and Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti, observed annually on August 15 and October 2.

History of Indian Republic Day

The new constitution was written by the drafting committee led by Dr BR Ambedkar after India gained Independence from British rule. On January 26, 1950, the Indian Constitution was enacted, reaffirming India’s status as a sovereign republic. Because the Indian National Congress issued Purna Swaraj, the declaration of India’s Independence from colonial rule, on this day in 1930, it was decided to hold the event on January 26.

How is Indian Republic Day celebrated?

India celebrates Republic Day with great enthusiasm and passion. It’s a day set aside to honour India’s sovereign Constitution. It is typical for schools and universities to fly the national flag. Nationwide cultural activities are held to support India’s fight for Independence. The Indian President raises the national flag at India Gate in New Delhi.

At Rajpath in New Delhi, the largest parades are held. The Ministry of Defence organised the parade, which was presided over by the Indian President. The event promotes India’s rich cultural diversity and showcases its military prowess.

The day also honours the martyrs who gave their lives in defence of the nation. In remembrance of the martyrs, the Indian Prime Minister places a wreath at the Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate. The national anthem, a 21-gun salute, and the raising of the flag come next. Awards such as the Paramvir Chakra, Ashok Chakra, and Vir Chakra are given to brave soldiers. Awards are given to children and general citizens who have shown courage in difficult circumstances.

The Indian Military showcases the public in attendance and those watching at home a display of its military prowess. The march-past of the police, the National Cadet Corps, and the armed forces also takes place with the President of India accepting the salute from various regiments. The Indian Air Force fighter jets fly over Janpath to end the parade.

Although the holiday is observed across the nation, Delhi—India’s capital—sees the largest Republic Day celebrations.

Public Life During Republic Day Holiday 2025

Republic Day, observed annually on January 26, is a public holiday, as was previously mentioned. All local, state and federal government offices will be closed on this day.
